Anson High School lost its homecoming game 41-0 against Weddington on Friday night.
Weddington made 21 points in the first quarter alone. They gained seven points in the second quarter, bringing the score to 28-0 by halftime. They made 13 points in the third quarter and no points in the fourth quarter, making the final score 41-0. This was a Southern Carolina Conference Game. Coach Luke Hyatt was not reached for comment by press time.
Crowds packed the bleachers, including members of several classes represented at the game. Fans also caught balls tossed by the Wadesboro Fire Department’s Sparky the Dog, the Bearcats mascot, and the varsity cheerleaders as they rode the track. The halftime show featured the Anson High School band with several songs, including its version of “Surf’s Up” by the Beach Boys. The homecoming court was also presented to the crowd.
The boys will play at home against Piedmont in another Southern Carolina Conference Game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
