Burnsville Recreation & Learning Center volunteers and supporters honored James L. Smith and Mary K. Thomas as Volunteers of the Month for August.

These two great people have worked faithful in the service of volunteering at the BRLC for quite some time.

Smith has worked faithfully since the onset of the Burnsville Recreation Center. We can always depend on him to make sure that the USDA items are there each month. Smith started many years ago as a transporter for the BRLC, food pantry and whatever else was needed. His support is one that we have always been able to count on. His laboring has been a blessing to so many families in Anson, Union and the surrounding counties. Smith stands tall in the community of BRLC because of all he brings this to BRLC community center. He is a member and Elder of the Monroe Full Gospel Ministries in the Monroe community.

Mary Thomas has diligently given many hours and leadership to the BRLC. Her kindness to the neighbors can never be replaced. She faithfully gives of herself weekly. Her smile lights up the place even when things seem to be blue. Her desire is to make others feel the presence of God’s Spirit no matter what they situation may be. She is one that always prays and shares kind and encouraging words to others. She is soft spoken, and exemplifies a kind and gracious spirit in making sure that each and every one that comes into those doors on Wednesday are valued and welcome. Thomas is a congregational member of the Hopewell U.M. Church.

They both received certificates of appreciation.

The community is invited to come out and share with the BRLC on the third Saturday of each month. Breakfast is served at 9:30 a.m. and a short meeting held at 10 a.m.
