Duck Rally and Craftts Fair is Saturday

October 6, 2013

Final preparations are underway for Saturday’s Monster Duck Rally and Crafts Fair at Ray Shelton Ball Park.

This community festival, which the Wadesboro Civitans have organized as a substitute for the canceled PeopleFest, will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and will close at 3 p.m. after the rubber duck races.

The duck race is just an interesting way of holding a raffle, with the winning ticket decided by which duck is first to float end-to-end of a 50-foot pool. The winning duck’s number will pay a $500 jackpot. Other speedy ducks will pay $100, $50, $25 and $25. Call Yates Almond at 704-848-4810, Beverley Getzen at 704-694-7022, or any other Civitan to buy a $5 ticket for the duck race. All income from the duck races and from the Civitan Hot Dog Booth supports youth programs in Anson County.

Hand-made jewelry, prints by local artists, pottery, wooden crafts, and textile art will be exhibited at this event. These folks want to meet you and show you what they have created. Several local organizations will have information booths.

There will also be a bouncy house, dunk-a-deputy tank, and other free games for kids organized by the Junior Civitans. Everybody gets to hear free music by popular local musicians. Headliner Carson Hill has invited several local bands to join her on Saturday.

If several “Duck Dynasty” fans want to participate, there will be an Uncle Si Look-Alike contest. Anyone wishing to be an Uncle Si imitator should sign up at the Civitan booth on Saturday morning. Judging by the audience will be at the band stand at about 1:30 p.m.
