Thomas Cureton of the Burnsville community recently discovered a three-foot long cucumber in his garden.
“This is the largest cucumber I have ever raised,” he said. “I planted the seeds in the edge of some corn rows, and with all the rain we have had, it got covered up in the grass.”
Cureton said he stumbled upon the cucumber on Friday, when he was cutting down corn stalks. The cucumber weighed 9 pounds and 9 ounces, was 36-inches long, and 14-inches in circumference.
The gigantic cucumber may have been a one-time occurrence, however. “I wish I could save the seeds,” Cureton said, “but it is a hybrid variety.”
